## Probable cause

THE PILOT DID NOT PROPERLY COMPENSATE FOR THE GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS, RESULTING IN THE AIRPLANE LANDING HARD AND PORPOISING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - level off - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - porpoise/pilot-induced oscillation - inadvertent, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - recovery from bounced landing - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED HE ENCOUNTERED TURBULENCE PRIOR TO LANDING ON RUNWAY 6. THE AIRPLANE LANDED HARD, NOSE WHEEL FIRST AND PORPOISED SEVERAL TIMES. THE PILOT APPLIED POWER, REGAINED CONTROL AND LANDED THE AIRPLANE NORMALLY.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900725028739A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900725028739A), Jul 25, 1990: Cessna 182G, Cincinnati, OH, Substantial damage. Bounced and porpoised 7 times before regaining control on landing. Runway impacts buckled fuselage and bent prop.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
