## Probable cause

A FAILURE OF THE NOSE GEAR FORK, WHICH CAUSED THE PILOT TO LOSE STEERING CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE AND VEER OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - landing gear,nose gear assembly - failure,partial (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - aborted
  - terrain condition - grass

## Analysis

JUST AFTER TOUCHDOWN ON RUNWAY 01, THE PILOT EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. HE APPLIED TAKEOFF POWER TO ATTEMPT A GO-AROUND, BUT WAS UNABLE TO PREVENT THE AIRPLANE FROM VEERING OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. DURING AN ON SITE INSPECTION, THE FAA FOUND THAT THE NOSE GEAR FORK HAD FAILED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Incident 19910710027029I](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910710027029I), Jul 10, 1991: Amtrjg QUESTAIR20, Lincoln Park, NJ, Minor damage. Not able to steer aircraft on rollout. Applied power for go around. Aircraft veered off runway. Nose gear collapsed

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
