## Probable cause

THE PILOT EXECUTING A LEFT TURN AT AN ALTITUDE INSUFFICIENT TO CLEAR A CORN FIELD LOCATED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE DEPARTURE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Abrupt maneuver, takeoff
  - aircraft handling - abrupt, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - altitude - misjudged, pilot in command (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE AIRPLANE TOOK OFF FROM A GRASS STRIP THAT WAS IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO A CORN FIELD. SHORTLY AFTER TAKE OFF THE PILOT STARTED A LEFT TURN AT A LOW ALTITUDE. THE LEFT WING HIT THE CORN AND THE AIRPLANE CART WHEELED. THE ON SCENE INSPECTION AND SUBSEQUENT ENGINE TEAR DOWN DID NOT REVEAL ANY DISCREPANCIES.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19901003043969A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19901003043969A), Oct 3, 1990: Univar STC415, Morrisonville, NY, Destroyed, 2 fatal. Made low altitude turn after liftoff. Wing struck tall corn causing aircraft to cartwheel.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
