## Probable cause

INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR GUSTING WINDS BY THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, taxi - from landing
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Dragged wing,rotor,pod,float or tail/skid, taxi - from landing

## Analysis

FOLLOWING A WATER LANDING IN A FLOAT EQUIPPED CESSNA 172, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS. THE AIRCRAFT OSCILLATED IN ROLL CAUSING BOTH WING TIPS TO ALTERNATELY CONTACT THE SURFACE OF THE WATER. THE AIRCRAFT WATER LOOPED AND CAME TO A STOP WITH DAMAGE TO BOTH WINGS AND THE CABIN WINDOWS.

## Other investigations on N5482K (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

- [NTSB NYC94LA104](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb/NYC94LA104), Jul 1, 1994: Cessna 172P (N5482K), Greenville, ME, substantial damage. Probable cause: THE PREMATURE RETRACTION OF THE WING FLAPS BY THE PILOT AFTER TAKEOFF, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF LIFT AND COLLISION WITH TREES.
