## Probable cause

THE COPILOT'S FAILURE TO ATTAIN A PROPER TOUCHDOWN POINT. FACTORS WERE THE CAPTAIN'S FAILURE TO FOLLOW COMPANY PROCEDURE AND BOTH PILOT'S LIMITED EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - wet
  - weather condition - tailwind
  - procedures/directives - not followed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, copilot/second pilot (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, copilot/second pilot (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE FIRST OFICER LANDED LONG WITH A TAILWIND ON A WET RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE WAS UNABLE TO STOP ON THE REMAINING RUNWAY, WENT OFF THE DEPARTURE END AND DOWN AN EMBANKMENT. THE FLIGHT CREW RECEIVED TWO WEATHER ADVISORIES PRIOR TO LANDING TELLING THEM OF THE WINDS. THE CAPTAIN AND FIRST OFFICER BOTH HAD LESS THAN 100 HOURS IN MODEL. THE COMPANY OPERATIONS MANUAL REQUIRED THE CAPTAIN TO MAKE ALL TAKEOFFS AND LANDINGS WHEN HE HAD LESS THAN 100 HOURS IN MODEL.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911006044889A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911006044889A), Oct 6, 1991: Swrngn SA227AC, Augusta, ME, Substantial damage. Unable to stop on wet runway. Ran off end over embankment. Quartering tail wind. Low time copilot at control.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
