## Probable cause

AN INADVERTENT STALL DUE TO THE PILOT'S DECISION TO PREMATURELY RETRACT THE WING FLAPS. A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE LACK OF ALTITUDE FOR RECOVERY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, takeoff - initial climb
  - raising of flaps - premature, pilot in command (cause)
  - climb - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - airspeed - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - stall/mush - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
  - remedial action - not possible, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with object, descent - uncontrolled
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PILOT MADE A TAKEOFF USING 2 NOTCHES OF FLAPS. HE RETRACTED ONE NOTCH AND THE AIRPLANE SETTLED. HE REEXTENDED THE FLAPS AND AFTER LEAVING GROUND EFFECT, THE LEFT WING STALLED. THE PILOT WAS UNABLE TO CLIMB OVER OBSTACLES AND ENTERED A SECOND STALL, THE AIRPLANE TURNED LEFT AND DESCENDED INTO TREES.
