## Probable cause

FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO USE ALL THE AVAILABLE TAKE OFF AREA.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, takeoff - initial climb
  - object - fence post
  - all available runway - not used, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - emergency
  - terrain condition - ditch (contributing factor)

## Analysis

DURING TAKE OFF FROM A PRIVATE GRASS STRIP, THE AIRPLANE STRUCK A FENCE POST. THE PILOT ELECTED TO LAND IN AN ADJACENT FIELD AND HIT A DITCH. THE INVESTIGATION SHOWED THE PILOT DID NOT USE ALL THE TAKE OFF AREA AVAILABLE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911029059079A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911029059079A), Oct 29, 1991: Beech B23BEECH, Bombay, NY, Substantial damage. Struck a fence post on liftoff from farm field. Aborted due powerlines ahead. Tore off nose gear in ditch landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
