## Probable cause

THE PILOT ALLOWED THE AIRPLANE TO GET TOO LOW ON SHORT FINAL AND STRUCK THE TERRAIN SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. FACTORS IN THE ACCIDENT WERE THE PROPER GLIDE PATH WAS NOT MAINTAINED, RESULTING IN THE INTENDED TOUCHDOWN POINT NOT BEING ATTAINED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown
  - proper glidepath - not attained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper touchdown point - not attained, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - proper altitude - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - ground (cause)

## Analysis

THE PILOT SAID WHILE ON SHORT FINAL THAT HE WAS FAST, THE '... AIRPLANE SUDDENLY LOST ALTITUDE...', AND HE DID NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO ADD POWER. THE MAIN GEAR HIT THE TERRAIN SHORT OF THE RUNWAY AND COLLAPSED.
