## Probable cause

A HARD LANDING DUE TO INADEQUATE FLARE BY THE PILOT. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE THE INADEQUATE TRANSITION TRAINING THE PILOT RECEIVED AND HIS LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - flare - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - inadequate transition/upgrade training, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Main gear collapsed, landing - flare/touchdown
  - landing gear - overload

## Analysis

THE PILOT MADE A HARD LANDING AND THE LANDING GEAR COLLAPSED. EARLIER IN THE DAY, WHILE FLYING A SIMILAR AIRPLANE, HE HAD BOUNCED THE LANDING MULTIPLE TIMES AND COLLAPSED THE LANDING GEAR. ON HIS TAKEOFF IN THE ACCIDENT AIRPLANE, HE WAS OBSERVED TO LOSE CONTROL WITHIN 300 FEET, DEPART THE RUNWAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE AND MAKE A RAPID 180 DEGREE TURN.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920428012149A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920428012149A), Apr 28, 1992: Amtrof BABYLAKES, Ottawa, OH, Substantial damage. Descent from bounced landing collapsed landing gear. Modified bungee gear too rigid. Had prior trouble on landings.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
