## Probable cause

A POWER LOSS OF UNDETERMINED ORIGIN WHILE OPERATING OVER UNSUITABLE TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, go-around (vfr)
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, descent - emergency
  - terrain condition - none suitable (cause)
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PILOT WAS PERFORMING A LOW PASS BEFORE LANDING ON A PRIVATE GRASS STRIP. AS HE PASSED THE FIELD, THE PILOT ADVANCED THE THROTTLE TO FULL AND ESTABLISHED A CLIMB. AFTER THE AIRPLANE WAS ESTABLISHED IN THE CLIMB, THE ENGINE GRADUALLY LOST POWER. THE PILOT TURNED THE AIRPLANE TOWARD AN AREA OF SMALL TREES WHERE IT CRASHED BETWEEN THE TRUNKS OF TWO TREES. THE FAA RAN THE ENGINE AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920613019899A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920613019899A), Jun 13, 1992: Bbavia 7KCAB, Hadley, MA, Substantial damage. Low pass over Private strip. On go around engine lost power. Landed in tree. Post accident engine ran normal.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
