## Probable cause

THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE, RESULTING IN THE AIRPLANE DEPARTING THE RUNWAY, IMPACTING WITH A WALL AND SUBSEQUENTLY CAUGHT FIRE. A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WAS THE PILOT IMPROPERLY COMPENSATED FOR A CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - aircraft control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - wall/barricade (cause)

## Analysis

ON FINAL APPROACH THE PILOT SAID HE HELD A HIGHER THEN NORMAL SPEED BECAUSE OF A 10 TO 15 KNOT CROSSWIND FROM THE LEFT. DURING THE LANDING ROLL THE AIRPLANE VEERED TO THE LEFT, STRUCK A WALL AND CAUGHT FIRE. THE FAA SAID, '...THE GROUND TRACK SHOWED NO ATTEMPT TO TAKE CORRECTIVE ACTION...'

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19921017042329A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921017042329A), Oct 17, 1992: Cessna 150L, Princeton/Rocky, NJ, Substantial damage. Weather vaned into crosswind on landing roll. Travelled 5 00 feet off runway and hit culvert. No corrective action.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
