## Probable cause

THE AUTOMOBILE DRIVER'S FAILURE TO SEE AND AVOID AIRCRAFT TRAFFIC WHILE CROSSING AN ACTIVE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - procedures/directives - not followed, driver of vehicle (cause)
  - object - vehicle
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PILOT STATED THAT WHILE COMPLETING A LANDING, HE OBSERVED AN AUTOMOBILE STOPPING AT THE RUNWAY CROSSING HOLD LINE. THE DRIVER APPEARED TO LOOK BOTH WAYS, THEN ACCELERATED ACROSS THE RUNWAY. THE FRONT OF THE AUTOMOBILE STRUCK THE TAIL SECTION OF THE AIRPLANE AND SEVERED IT FROM THE FUSELAGE.

- [Accident 19921018042469A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19921018042469A), Oct 18, 1992: Cessna 150L, Linden, NJ, Substantial damage. On final saw vehicle stopping at runway crossing hold line. Auto accellerated as plane went by and severed its tail

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
