## Probable cause

THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO TAKE OFF ON ROUGH UNEVEN TERRAIN AND COULD NOT ATTAIN ROTATION SPEED, WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRPLANE STRIKING A TREE DURING THE GROUND RUN. A FACTOR IN THIS ACCIDENT WAS INADEQUATE PRE FLIGHT PLANNING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - roll/run
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - inadequate
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (cause)
  - airspeed(vr) - not attained, pilot in command (cause)
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

WHILE ON A CROSS-COUNTRY FLIGHT, THE PILOT EXHAUSTED THE FUEL SUPPLY SHORT OF REACHING THE DESTINATION AIRPORT. THE PILOT MADE A SUCCESSFUL FORCED LANDING IN A PASTURE AND THEN WENT AND BOUGHT FUEL AT THE AIRPORT. THE PILOT REFUELED THE AIRPLANE WITH 10 GALLONS OF 100 OCTANE FUEL. DURING THE TAKE OFF RUN THE LEFT WING STRUCK A TREE.

## Other investigations on N58ND (1)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
