## Probable cause

THE FAILURE OF THE PILOT TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL DURING LANDING WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRPLANE DEPARTING THE RUNWAY AND NOSING OVER. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE THE CROSSWIND AND THE SOFT TERRAIN ENCOUNTERED BY THE AIRPLANE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

WITH THE WINDS FROM 300 DEGREES AT 10 KNOTS, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A LANDING ON RUNWAY 1. HOWEVER, DUE TO THE CROSSWWIND, HE WENT AROUND AND WHEN ON FINAL FOR THE SECOND APPROACH HE WAS OFFERED RUNWAY 24. HE SAID HE WOULD CONTINUE HIS APPROACH TO RUNWAY 1; HOWEVER, AFTER TOUCHDOWN, HE WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AND DEPARTED THE RUNWAY ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE NOSE WHEEL ENCOUNTERED A SOFT AREA, DUG IN, AND THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
