## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE AIRSPEED WHICH RESULTED IN AN INADVERTENT STALL. CONTRIBUTING WAS THE LACK OF TOTAL EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, go-around (vfr)
  - airspeed - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - stall - inadvertent, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE STUDENT PILOT WAS PRACTICING TOUCH AND GO LANDINGS. ON THE LANDING THAT THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED, THE PILOT HAD ELECTED TO MAKE A GO AROUND. THE AIRPLANE REACHED AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 75 FEET. THE PILOT SAID HE, '...THEN ENTERED A POWER ON CROSS CONTROL STALL...' AND TURNED 180 DEGREES BACK TOWARDS THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE DESCENDED AND IMPACTED THE GROUND WITH THE LEFT WING.

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930404007889A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930404007889A), Apr 4, 1993: Piper PA28140, Doylestown, PA, Substantial damage. Began to turn into wind on crosswind landing. Began go around. Entered cross control stall. Left wing hit ground.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
