## Probable cause

failure of the pilot to maintain directional control of the airplane during the landing, which allowed the plane to depart the runway and collide with a snowbank. A factor relating to the accident was: the icy runway condition.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - icy (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - proper alignment - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - snowbank
- Nose over, landing

## Analysis

The airplane had landed on a runway, which was covered with ice and blowing snow. The runway was 3,625 feet long and 50 feet wide. The pilot stated that after touching down on the runway, the airplane 'slipped to the left.' Subsequently, it struck a snow bank and nosed over.

## Factual narrative

On December 8, 1995, about 1245 eastern standard time, a Cessna 150M, N45625, collided with a snow bank during the landing roll at the Moultonboro Airport, Moultonboro, New Hampshire. The airplane was substantially damaged, and the private pilot was not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan had been filed. The local personal flight was being conducted under 14 CFR Part 91.

The airplane had landed on a runway, which was covered with ice and blowing snow. The runway was 3,625 feet long and 50 feet wide. During the landing roll the airplane veered to the left, departed the runway, struck a snow bank and nosed over.

The piloted stated that after touching down on runway 02, the airplane "slipped to the left." He further stated:

I applied right rudder. The plane corrected, and then again slipped to the left. As I was again applying right rudder, the left wheel caught the snow bank...the plane veered to the left, balanced on it's nose and came to rest on its back....

The pilot's total flight time was 58.2 hours, with 58 hours in this make and model airplane.

The reported local weather was; clear, visibility 10 miles, winds from 350 degrees, at 4 to 8 knots.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
