## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power, cruise - normal
  - reason for occurrence undetermined (cause)
- Forced landing, landing - flare/touchdown
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - autorotation - performed, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- Fire, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE ACFT WAS DESTROYED BY FIRE AFTER A FORCED LANDING DUE TO PWR LOSS. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE WAS EN ROUTE HOME AFTER AN AERIAL APPLICATION MISSION WHEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER. HE MADE AN AUTO-ROTATION DOWNWIND AND AFTER EXITING THE ACFT NOTICED AN ENGINE FIRE. THE ACFT AND 2 ACRES OF RANGE GRASS WERE DESTROYED IN THE FIRE. FAA INSPECTORS EXAMINED THE WRECKAGE BUT COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE POWER LOSS BECAUE OF THE EXTENSIVE FIRE DAMAGE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19830623042019A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19830623042019A), Jun 23, 1983: Hiller UH12B, Jerome, ID, Destroyed. Power loss returning to base. Made hard downwind autorotation landing. Engine fire consumed helicopter.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
