## Probable cause

THE PILOT DID NOT MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT. A FACTOR WAS THE GUY WIRES AT THE EDGE OF THE FIELD.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering - aerial application
  - terrain condition - high obstruction(s) (contributing factor)
  - object - guy wire (contributing factor)
  - visual lookout - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING AN APCH FOR FIRST SPRAY RUN, THE ACFT'S RIGHT WING STRUCK GUY WIRES AT EDGE OF THE FIELD. BOTH THE PILOT & GROUND CREW HAD CHECKED THE FIELD FOR OBSTRUCTIONS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890711066099A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890711066099A), Jul 11, 1989: Ayres STCS2, Middleton, ID, Substantial damage. First spray run right wing struck a unseen guy wire and crashed. Had checked field but wire on edge of field.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
