## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE AIRSPEED DURING A LANDING GO-AROUND IN HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE CONDITIONS.

## Analysis

DURING A LANDING WITH FULL FLAPS, THREE PASSENGERS, AND HIGH DENSITY ALTITUDE CONDITIONS, THE PILOT FELT HE WAS TOO HIGH AND INITIATED A GO-AROUND. FULL POWER WAS ADDED BUT THE AIRPLANE CONTINUED IT'S DESCENT ONTO THE GROUND OFF THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Hard landing, go-around (vfr)
  - planned approach - improper, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - go-around - attempted, pilot in command
  - weather condition - high density altitude (contributing factor)
  - airspeed - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890730025619A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890730025619A), Jul 30, 1989: Cessna 172E, Yerington, NV, Substantial damage. Tried to go around with full flaps gross weight high temperature and density altitude. Continued descent to impact.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
