## Probable cause

FUEL EXHAUSTION DUE TO THE PILOT'S INACCURATE FUEL CONSUMPTION CALCULATIONS. CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS A FENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, approach
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion
  - fuel consumption calculations - inaccurate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, landing
  - object - fence

## Analysis

AS THE AMPHIBIOUS AIRCRAFT WAS ON AN APPROACH TO LAND, ITS ENGINE LOST POWER. THE PILOT COULD NOT REACH THE AIRPORT AND THE AIRCRAFT HIT A FENCE DURING A FORCED LANDING. THE PILOT HAD CALCULATED HE HAD 52 MINUTES OF FUEL REMAINING, BUT THE FAA REPORTED THERE WAS NO FUEL LEFT IN THE AIRCRAFT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890904033529A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890904033529A), Sep 4, 1989: Cessna TU206G, Arco, ID, Substantial damage. Ran out of fuel on approach to airport. Struck a fence and flipped over on forced landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
