## Probable cause

AN UNDETERMINED LOSS OF ENGINE POWER.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, takeoff - initial climb
  - reason for occurrence undetermined
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

DURING THE INITIAL CLIMB AFTER ALL SYSTEM AND ENGINE GAGES INDICATED NORMAL OPERATION, AT 200 FEET AGL, THE ENGINE QUIT. THE PILOT SWITCHED FUEL TANKS AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE RAN FOR TEN SECONDS THEN QUIT. A FORCED LANDING WAS MADE WHERE DURING THE LANDING ROLL, THE AIRPLANE NOSED OVER. POST CRASH INSPECTION OF THE ENGINE DID NOT REVEAL A MECHANICAL FAILURE OR MALFUNCTION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19890917035169A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19890917035169A), Sep 17, 1989: Dhav DHC2MK1, Kapowsin, WA, Substantial damage. Engine quit on climbout with sky divers. Nosed over landing. Divers had no seat belts. Possible fuel mismanagement.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
