## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO USE THE PROPER TOUCHDOWN POINT FOR LANDING. THE TAILWIND WAS A FACTOR RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Overrun, landing - roll
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - proper touchdown point - not used, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - grass
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - fence
  - object - tree(s)

## Analysis

THE PILOT LANDED NEAR MIDFIELD ON A 2130 FT LONG GRASS STRIP IN STRONG GUSTY TAILWIND CONDITIONS AND WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP ON THE RUNWAY. THE ACFT OVERRAN THE END OF THE RUNWAY, RAN THROUGH A WOODEN FENCE AND IMPACTED TREES.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900324005199A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900324005199A), Mar 24, 1990: Piper PA28235, Yamhill, OR, Substantial damage. Landed downwind on short strip. Over ran runway thru a fence and into trees.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
