## Probable cause

AN INADEQUATE RECOVERY FROM A BOUNCED LANDING AND INADEQUATE CLEARANCE TO AVOID COLLIDING WITH TREES.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing
  - recovery from bounced landing - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with object, takeoff - initial climb
  - object - tree(s) (contributing factor)
  - clearance - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING A CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT, THE PILOT ATTEMPTED A LANDING AT AN UNCONTROLLED AIRSTRIP. SEVERAL INDENTATIONS ON THE GROUND INDICATE THAT THE AIRPLANE TOUCHED DOWN AND BOUNCED. THE AIRPLANE BECAME AIRBORNE AND COLLIDED WITH TREES AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THERE WERE NO REPORTED MECHANICAL FAILURES OR MALFUNCTIONS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900405007779A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900405007779A), Apr 5, 1990: Cessna 152, Scio, OR, Destroyed. Landed long, unable to stop. Tried to go around with full flaps and carb heat. Hit Trees off end.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
