## Probable cause

THE PILOT DID NOT MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL OF THE AIRPLANE DURING THE LANDING ROLL. THE LANDING WAS MADE ON A WET RUNWAY WITH EXCESSIVE AIRSPEED.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - wet (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - airspeed - excessive, pilot in command (contributing factor)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven

## Analysis

DURING THE APPROACH FOR LANDING AT A PRIVATE GRASS STRIP, THE PILOT NOTED THAT A LIGHT RAIN SHOWER WAS PRESENT. THE PILOT SET UP THE APPROACH WITH A LIGHT TAILWIND. WHEN OVER THE THRESHOLD, THE AIRPLANE SUDDENLY BALLOONED UP APPROXIMATELY 50 TO 60 FEET. THE PILOT DOVE THE AIRPLANE TO THE RUNWAY AND LANDED WITH EXCESS AIRSPEED. THE PILOT APPLIED BRAKES, HOWEVER, DUE TO THE WET GRASS, THE BRAKES WERE INEFFECTIVE. THE AIRPLANE VEERED OFF THE RUNWAY AND COLLIDED INTO ROCKS. THERE WERE NO REPORTED MECHANICAL FAILURES OR MALFUNCTIONS.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900608020009A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900608020009A), Jun 8, 1990: Cessna TU206G, Elk City, ID, Substantial damage. Slid off wet grass runway near end. Collided with rocks. Had light tailwind.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
