## Probable cause

PILOT'S IMPROPER INFLIGHT PLANNING WHICH RESULTED IN THE AIRCRAFT UNDERSHOOTING THE RUNWAY. FACTORS IN THE ACCIDENT WERE THE HIGH, GUSTY WIND CONDITIONS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Undershoot, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - in-flight planning/decision - improper, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - high wind (contributing factor)
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, approach - vfr pattern - final approach

## Analysis

THE PILOT FLEW TOO FAR IN A VFR TRAFFIC PATTERN ON THE DOWNWIND LEG TO RETURN TO THE RUNWAY FOR LANDING. THE ACFT UNDERSHOT THE RUNWAY AND IMPACTED TERRAIN OFF THE ARPT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19900610019429A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900610019429A), Jun 10, 1990: Amtr BG12B, Wenatchee, WA, Destroyed. Crash landed short of the runway. Misjudged glide in strong surface wind.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
