## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S SELECTION OF UNSUITABLE TERRAIN FOR A LANDING SITE AND HIS INADEQUATE COMPENSATION FOR THE WIND CONDITION. FACTORS RELATED TO THE ACCIDENT WERE: THE TAILWIND AND THE DITCH.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)
  - weather condition - tailwind (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - ditch (contributing factor)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE PLT ELECTED TO LAND ON A ROAD THAT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY USED AS A LANDING SITE. HE SAID HE THOUGHT THERE WAS NO WIND, BUT THERE WAS ACTUALLY A SLIGHT TAILWIND. DURING THE LANDING, THE RIGHT MAIN WHEEL DROPPED INTO A DITCH & THE ACFT NOSED OVER.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
