## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S MISJUDGEMENT OF DISTANCE AND ALTITUDE AND HIS FAILURE TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE AIRSPEED DURING THE LANDING APPROACH.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Undershoot, landing - flare/touchdown
  - airspeed - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
  - distance - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
  - altitude - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

DURING AN APPROACH FOR LANDING, THE PILOT FAILED TO MAINTAIN AN ADEQUATE AIRSPEED. THE AIRPLANE LANDED SHORT OF THE RUNWAY. THE NOSE GEAR COLLAPSED AND THE WINGS PARTIALLY SEPARATED AT THE ROOT AND DRUG ON THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE SLID DOWN THE RUNWAY AND CAME TO REST. THE PILOT REPORTED THAT THERE WERE NO MECHANICAL FAILURES OR MALFUNCTIONS WITH THE AIRPLANE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
