## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILUE TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE CLEARANCE FROM AN OBJECT NEAR THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, taxi - to takeoff
  - clearance - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)

## Analysis

DURING TAXI OUT TO PERFORM A GLIDER TOW, THE AIRCRAFT HIT A SMALL BUILDING WHILE TURNING AROUND AT THE END OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE LOST HIS RIGHT BRAKE; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE AIRCRAFT STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES.

- [Accident 19900825037119A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19900825037119A), Aug 25, 1990: Piper PA18A150, North Plains, OR, Substantial damage. Wing struck a building while turning for takeoff at end of runway for a glider tow.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
