## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL ON THE GROUND. FACTORS INCLUDE WIND GUSTS.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
  - object - sign
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE CESSNA 152 SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGED WHEN THE STUDENT PILOT LOST DIRECTIONAL CONTROL AFTER LANDING. THE PILOT STATED THAT HE MADE A NORMAL LANDING AND THE RIGHT WING LIFTED DUE TO A GUST. THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, WHERE THE LEFT WING STRUCK A 3000 FOOT MARKER AND THE AIRCRAFT SPUN AROUND TO THE LEFT.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910308004849A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910308004849A), Mar 8, 1991: Cessna 152, Tacoma, WA, Substantial damage. Crosswind gust lifted wing on landing. Student lost control. Left the runway and struck runway marker.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
