## Probable cause

THE PILOT DID NOT ADEQUATELY RECOVER FROM A BOUNCED LANDING. FACTORS TO THE ACCIDENT WERE: A POORLY PLANNED APPROACH, AND THE PILOT'S LACK OF TOTAL FLIGHT EXPERIENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - planned approach - poor, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - lack of total experience, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - recovery from bounced landing - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - runway

## Analysis

WHILE PRACTICING A TOUCH-AND-GO LANDING, THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED. THE AIRPLANE BOUNCED THREE TIMES BEFORE THE PILOT APPLIED FULL POWER TO TRY AND RECOVER. THE AIRPLANE DRIFTED TO THE LEFT OF THE RUNWAY AND THE LEFT WING DROPPED AND STRUCK THE RUNWAY. THE AIRPLANE SPUN TO THE LEFT, COLLAPSING THE LANDING GEAR, AND CAME TO REST OFF THE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY.

- [Accident 19910519016409A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910519016409A), May 19, 1991: Beech B23BEECH, Spanish Fork, UT, Substantial damage. Bounced and porpoised on landing. Applied power to recover. Wing hit ground causing ground loop and collapsing gear.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
