## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO FAILURE OF THE NUMBER 5 CYLINDER ROD BEARING WHICH RESULTED FROM LACK OF LUBRICATION OF THE MAIN BEARING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, cruise - normal
  - engine assembly,bearing - overtemperature (cause)
  - fluid,oil - blocked(partial) (cause)
  - engine assembly,connecting rod - failure,total (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water collision with object, landing - roll
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

THE ACFT ENGINE QUIT IN CRUISE FLT AND THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING IN A FIELD. THE ACFT IMPACTED IRRIGATION EQUIP DURING LANDING ROLL AND NOSED OVER. EXAM OF THE ENGINE REVEALED EVIDENCE OF A SPUN MAIN ROD BEARING IN THE NO 5 CYLINDER, OVERTEMP AND FAILURE OF THE BEARING.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910527017369A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910527017369A), May 27, 1991: Cessna T210N, Klamath Falls, OR, Substantial damage. Engine lost power. Radar vectored but unable make airport. Nosed over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
