## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S DELAYED SWITCHING OF THE FUEL TANK SELECTOR, THE ENGINE FAILURE FROM FUEL STARVATION AND THE UNSUITABLE TERRAIN FOR A FORCED LANDING.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, cruise - normal
  - fuel system - starvation (cause)
  - fuel tank selector position - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - none suitable (cause)

## Analysis

DURING CRUISE FLIGHT AT A LOW ALTITUDE THE PILOT EXHAUSTED ONE FUEL TANK AND SWITCHED TO ANOTHER TANK. THE ENGINE DID NOT RESTART PRIOR TO MAKING A FORCED LANDING WHERE THE AIRCRAFT WAS SUBSTANTIALLY DAMAGED FROM A COLLISION WITH THE GROUND DURING THE LANDING ROLL.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910707026269A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910707026269A), Jul 7, 1991: Trytek 65CA, West Jordan, UT, Substantial damage. Engine quit en route. Stalled on upslope hill. Post accident no fuel. Aux fuel line pinched by tieoff. Engine normal

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
