## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN RUNWAY ALIGNMENT. FACTORS INCLUDE HIGH VEGETATION GROWING CLOSE TO THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- On ground/water collision with object, takeoff - roll/run
  - proper alignment - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - high vegetation (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE GRUMMAN G-164B FAILED TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT ALIGNED WITH THE CENTER OF THE RUNWAY, DURING THE TAKEOFF ROLL, AND HOOKED THE SPRAY BOOM ON SOME TALL WHEAT, GROWING BESIDE THE AIRSTRIP. THE AIRCRAFT WAS PULLED INTO A HARD RIGHT DECELERATION.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19910717027959A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19910717027959A), Jul 17, 1991: Scwzer G164B, Pullman, WA, Substantial damage. Caught spray boom on tall wheat on edge of strip on takeoff. Veered into wheat.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
