## Probable cause

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER IN FLIGHT DUE TO IMPROPER MAINTENANCE INSPECTIONS. A FACTOR RELATING TO THE ACCIDENT WAS THE ROUGH TERRAIN AT THE ACCIDENT SITE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - mech failure/malf, cruise - normal
  - ignition system,ignition points - worn (cause)
  - maintenance,100-hour inspection - improper, other maintenance personnel (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - rough/uneven (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE ACFT ENGINE LOST PWR IN CRUISE FLT. THE PILOT MADE A FORCED LANDING AND THE ACFT IMPACTED ROUGH TERRAIN DURING LANDING GRD ROLL. INSP OF THE ACFT REVEALED THE IGN POINTS WOULD NOT OPEN AND THE MAG WOULD NOT PRODUCE SPARK. BOTH MAG POINT CAM FOLLOWERS WERE WORN EXCESSIVELY FROM LACK OF LUBRICATION.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
