## Probable cause

AN INADEQUATE WEATHER EVALUATION. FACTORS TO THE ACCIDENT WERE: GUSTS AND CROSSWIND.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - weather condition - gusts (contributing factor)
  - compensation for wind conditions - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, landing - roll

## Analysis

DURING THE LANDING ROLL, A GUST OF WIND FROM THE LEFT LIFTED THE LEFT WING AND SWUNG THE NOSE OF THE AIRPLANE TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT WAS ABLE TO LEVEL THE WINGS, HOWEVER, THE AIPLANE TRAVELLED OFF THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO GO-AROUND, HOWEVER, THE MAIN LANDING GEAR CAUGHT ON A DITCH. THE AIRPLANE GROUND LOOPED AND CAME TO REST INVERTED.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19911011045829A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19911011045829A), Oct 11, 1991: Luscom 8A, Rawlings, WY, Substantial damage. Wind gust lifted a wing. Tried to go around, lost control. Left the runway into a ditch.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
