## Probable cause

THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND'S SELECTION OF UNSUITABLE TERRAIN (SNOW COVERED RUNWAY) FOR LANDING RESULTING IN A NOSE OVER ON LANDING ROLLOUT.

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE CESSNA 185 MADE A COUPLE OF LOW PASSES OVER THE SNOW COVERED RUNWAY, AND THEN DECIDED TO LAND. WHEN HE TOUCHED DOWN IN THE SNOW, WHICH WAS DEEPER THAN HE HAD ESTIMATED, THE AIRCRAFT DECELERATED RAPIDLY, AND NOSED OVER.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Nose over, landing - roll
  - airport facilities,runway/landing area condition - snow covered (contributing factor)
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
