## Probable cause

A MISJUDGED DESCENT RATE, AND DELAYED CORRECTIVE ACTION. FACTORS INCLUDE A LACK OF EXPERIENCE IN THIS TYPE OF AIRCRAFT, AND A BUILDING NEAR THE LANDING AREA.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - descent - misjudged, pilot in command (cause)
  - remedial action - delayed, pilot in command (cause)
  - lack of total experience in type of aircraft, pilot in command (contributing factor)
  - object - building(nonresidential)
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE UNREGISTERED EXPERIMENTAL HELICOPTER, WHO DID NOT HOLD AN FAA HELICOPTER PILOT CERTIFICATE, MISJUDGED HIS RATE OF DESCENT WHILE ON FINAL APPROACH TO THE YARD OF HIS PRIVATE RESIDENCE. CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS DELAYED BEYOND A POINT WHERE HE WAS ABLE TO AVOID CONTACTING THE ROOF OF A SMALL OUTBUILDING. AFTER CONTACTING THE OUTBUILDING, THE AIRCRAFT DESCENDED INTO THE GROUND.

## Aircraft

## Weather

- Conditions: Visual (VMC), Day

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
