## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S SELECTION OF UNSUITABLE TERRAIN. THE SOFT TERRAIN WAS A FACTOR.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Nose over, landing - roll
  - unsuitable terrain or takeoff/landing/taxi area - selected, pilot in command (cause)
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT OF THE GRUMMAN G-164A ENCOUNTERED SOME SOFT TERRAIN WHILE LANDING ON A DIRT ROAD TO LOAD CHEMICALS FOR AERIAL APPLICATION. THE SOFT DIRT PULLED THE AIRCRAFT TO ONE SIDE OF THE RUNWAY, AND THE PILOT ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT WITH THE USE OF OPPOSITE RUDDER AND OPPOSITE BRAKE APPLICATION. WHEN THE AIRCRAFT TAIL BEGAN TO COME UP, THE PILOT RELEASED THE BRAKE APPLICATION, BUT THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER ON THE SOFT LANDING SURFACE.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19920804029019A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19920804029019A), Aug 4, 1992: Scwzer G164A, Paul, ID, Substantial damage. Nosed over landing on a road to load chemicals.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
