## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. FACTORS INCLUDE SOFT TERRAIN.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, landing - roll
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, landing - roll
  - terrain condition - soft (contributing factor)

## Analysis

AFTER A HARD TOUCHDOWN, THE PILOT OF THE CESSNA 172H HAD TROUBLE MAINTAINING DIRECTIONAL CONTROL, AND THE AIRCRAFT DEPARTED THE LEFT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. AFTER LEAVING THE RUNWAY, THE AIRCRAFT ENCOUNTERED SOFT TERRAIN, WHICH CAUSED IT TO NOSE OVER.
