## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S INADEQUATE VISUAL LOOKOUT. FACTORS INCLUDE A POWER LINE IN THE VICINITY OF THE AIRSTRIP.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- In flight collision with object, maneuvering
  - object - wire,transmission (contributing factor)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with terrain/water, landing - flare/touchdown

## Analysis

DURING LOW LEVEL MANEUVERING TO OBSERVE THE CONDITION OF THE REMOTE PRIVATE AIRSTRIP, THE AIRCRAFT CONTACTED A POWER LINE WHICH THE PILOT HAD FAILED TO SEE. CONTACT WITH THE WIRE COLLAPSED THE NOSE GEAR AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STOP ROTATING. THE PILOT THEREFORE ELECTED TO EXECUTE A FORCED LANDING ON ROUGH TERRAIN NEAR THE RUNWAY.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
