## Probable cause

THE PILOT'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL, AND INSUFFICIENT REMEDIAL ACTION. FACTORS INCLUDE A SNOW BANK NEAR THE EDGE OF THE RUNWAY.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - on ground/water, takeoff
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- On ground/water encounter with terrain/water, takeoff - aborted
  - remedial action - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Nose over, takeoff - aborted
  - terrain condition - snowbank (contributing factor)

## Analysis

AS THE PILOT OF THE CESSNA 172 APPLIED POWER DURING AN ATTEMPTED TOUCH AND GO LANDING, THE AIRCRAFT'S NOSE WHEEL TOUCHED DOWN AND THE AIRCRAFT VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE PILOT'S REMEDIAL ACTION WAS NOT SUFFICIENT TO KEEP THE AIRCRAFT FROM EXITING THE RUNWAY. AS THE AIRPLANE DEPARTED THE RUNWAY, IT IMPACTED A SNOW BANK, AND FLIPPED OVER ON ITS TOP.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19930312005009A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19930312005009A), Mar 12, 1993: Cessna 172M, Logan, UT, Substantial damage. Veered when power added on touch and go. Improper control inputs allowed aircraft to exit runway and nose over.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
