## Probable cause

THE PILOT IN COMMAND'S FAILURE TO MAINTAIN DIRECTIONAL CONTROL. FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE ACCIDENT WERE CROSSWINDS AND THE FENCE.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of control - in flight, landing - aborted
  - weather condition - crosswind (contributing factor)
  - directional control - not maintained, pilot in command (cause)
- In flight collision with object, landing - aborted
  - object - fence (contributing factor)

## Analysis

THE PILOT ENCOUNTERED A 10 TO 12 KNOT LEFT CROSSWIND WHILE LANDING ON RUNWAY 28 AT THE PRIVATE AIRSTRIP AND BEGAN TO DRIFT RIGHT. AFTER ATTEMPTING TO CORRECT FOR THE DRIFT, HE ADDED POWER AND EXECUTED A BALKED LANDING. DURING THE GO AROUND THE AIRCRAFT DRIFTED LEFT IMPACTING A CYCLONE FENCE WHICH PARALLELED THE RUNWAY ON ITS SOUTH SIDE.
