## Probable cause

LOSS OF ENGINE POWER DUE TO FUEL EXHAUSTION, RESULTING FROM INADEQUATE PREFLIGHT PLANNING/PREPARATION BY THE PIC.

## Sequence of events

In NTSB's coding before 2008 (https://www.ntsb.gov/GILS/Documents/codman.pdf).

- Loss of engine power(total) - nonmechanical, cruise - normal
  - fluid,fuel - exhaustion (cause)
  - preflight planning/preparation - inadequate, pilot in command (cause)
- Forced landing, descent - emergency
- In flight collision with object, approach - vfr pattern - final approach
  - object - wire,transmission
- In flight collision with terrain/water, descent - uncontrolled

## Analysis

THE ACFT LOST ENGINE POWER IN CRUISE FLIGHT AND THE PIC INITIATED AN EMERGENCY FORCED LANDING IN A CULTIVATED FIELD. THE ACFT STRUCK POWER LINES AT THE EDGE OF THE FIELD ON FINAL APPROACH, DESCENDED UNCONTROLLED AND IMPACTED IN THE FIELD. EXAM OF THE WRECKAGE REVEALED THE FUEL TANKS WERE EMPTY.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
