## Analysis

THE PILOT ATTEMPTED AN EMERGENCY LANDING AND THE AIRCRAFT NOSED OVER, AFTER A LOSS OF ENGINE LUBRICATING OIL DUE TO A BROKEN OR RUPTURED OIL LINE.

## Factual narrative

On May 28, 1994, at 0743 mountain daylight time, a Piper PA-25, N4842Y, sustained minor damage when it nosed over during a forced landing near Newdale, Idaho after a loss of power. The commercial pilot, who was engaged in aerial application activities, was listed as receiving serious injuries. The flight had originated at Newdale, Idaho, and was being conducted under 14CFR137 in visual meteorological conditions. There was no fire and there was no ELT installed in the aircraft.

The pilot was required to remain hospitalized for greater than 48 hours. He stated that the aircraft lost power during a run, about 20 miles northeast of Rexburg, Idaho.

The pilot stated that an oil line from the oil cooler ruptured, causing a loss of oil, folowed by a loss of power.

## FAA reports on this event (1)

The FAA's own accident and incident reports, matched to the aircraft by N-number and date (OpenAirDocs).

- [Accident 19940528018009A](https://openairdocs.org/incident/19940528018009A), May 28, 1994: Piper PA25260, Rexburg, ID, Minor damage. During spray run oil cooler line ruptured. Lost oil. Lost power. Nosed over on forced landing.

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
