## Probable cause

The pilot’s improper use of the brakes during the landing roll, which resulted in a nose over.

## Findings

## Analysis

The purpose of the flight was for the pilot to practice landing his tailwheel-equipped airplane on a grass airstrip. After departure, he remained in the airstrip’s traffic pattern and configured the airplane for a wheel landing. During the landing roll, with the airplane’s main landing gear on the grass and the tailwheel still airborne, the pilot applied brake pressure. The airplane nosed over, sustaining substantial damage to the firewall. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures that would have precluded normal operation.

## Docket (1 files)

The files NTSB released with the investigation on October 3, 2012, on NTSB's docket system: https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket?ProjectID=84751. 2.3 MB in all.

- Pilot/Operator Aircraft Accident Report, NTSB Form 6120.1 (item 1, .PDF, 2.3 MB): https://data.ntsb.gov/Docket/Document/docBLOB?ID=40377829&FileExtension=.PDF&FileName=Pilot%2FOperator%20Aircraft%20Accident%20Report,%20NTSB%20Form%206120.1-Redacted.PDF

From the NTSB's public API. Aircraft are matched to registry aircraft by N-number and event date, checked against the reported serial number, make and model; the registry's history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
