## Probable cause

The pilot’s failure to maintain airplane control during the landing roll, which resulted in a nosed over.

## Findings

## Sequence of events

The events NTSB coded, in order, by phase of flight. The defining event best describes what happened.

- [Landing-landing roll: Nose over/nose down](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096) (defining event); cases with it: [Cessna 170A, 14 cases](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096/sequence.md?model=2072304), [All aircraft, 2,287 cases](https://openairdocs.org/ntsb-events/096/sequence.md)

## Analysis

The pilot of the tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that, during the landing rollout, he noted the wind was stronger than anticipated and the airplane was drifting toward the wind. He added rudder input to correct, with no effect, so he added additional rudder correction. He accidentally applied the brakes, and the airplane nosed over and came to rest inverted. The rudder was substantially damaged. The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
