BULLETIN Aircraft Certification Service Washington, DC U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration No. CE-02-25 April 16, 2002 We post SAIBs on the internet at "av-info.faa.gov" This is information only. Recommendations are not mandatory.

Introduction This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) advises you, owners/operators of Dornier 228 series airplanes, of issuance of Dornier Service Bulletin (SB) 228-235.

Background The Small Airplane Directorate, Aircraft Certification Service, of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2001-04-04 on February 28, 2001. This AD required the implementation of the provisions of Dornier All Operators’ Telex AOT-228-30- 022 to eliminate the overheating of windshield deicing spray nozzle heaters.

Dornier has now issued a Service Bulletin, SB 228-035 to supersede AOT-228-30-022.

Recommendations Implementation of SB 228-235 is considered an acceptable Alternative Method of Compliance (AMOC) for AD 2001-04-04.

The Small Airplane Directorate issued a letter to docket 99-CE-99-AD that recognizes SB 228-235 as an approved alternate method of compliance (AMOC) for 2001-04-04. We have attached a copy of the AMOC letter to facilitate utilization.

The Service Bulletins Can Be Obtained From Fairchild Dornier GmbH PO Box 11 03 D-82230 Wessling Germany Phone: (011) 49 81 53-30 0 Fax: (011) 49 81 53-30 29 01 For Further Information Contact Karl M. Memorandum U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration Subject: INFORMATION: Alternative Method of Compliance Date: APR 0 3 2002 (AMOC) for AD 2001-04-04 From: Manager, Standards Office, ACE-110 Reply to Karl Schletzbaum Attn. of: 816- 329-4112 To: Docket 99-CE-99-AD The Small Airplane Directorate issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2001-04-04 on February 8, 2001. This AD applied to Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH model 228-100, 228-101, 228-200, 228-201, 228-202 and 228-212 airplanes. The manufacturer subsequently issued Service Bulletin (SB) SB- 228-235; Revision 1, dated December 18, 2001, which introduced a modification that replaces the requirements of the original applicable service information, All Operators Telefax (AOT) AOT-228-30-022. The AOT and AD 2001-04-04 required the deactivation of the windshield spray nozzle heating elements, service bulletin SB-228-235 allows the modification of the spray nozzle system instead.

Dorier service bulletin SB-228-235, Revision 1 is approved as an equivalent to Dornier All Operators Telefax AOT-228-30-022. Utilization of SB-228-235, Revision 1 is an approved AMOC for AD 2001-04-04 and is terminating action for this AD.
