BULLETIN Aircraft Certification Service Washington, DC U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration No. CE-03-20 January 29, 2003 We post SAIBs on the internet at "av-info.faa.gov" This is information only. Recommendations are not mandatory.

Introduction This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) alerts you, an owner or operator of Moravan Z-242L aircraft, that Moravan-Aeroplanes, Inc. has issued Mandatory Service Bulletin (SB) No. Z 242L/42a, dated October 7, 2002. The Service Bulletin alerts owners and operators of a procedure to inspect and correct, as necessary, the aircraft oil system on all Z-242L aircraft.

The possibility exists that the aircraft oil system’s adhesive joint of the tube in the “Tee” assembly, Part Number (P/N) L 242.7100-06.00 or L 242.7600-06.00, and in the “Elbow” assembly, P/N L

242.7100-05.00, can become loose. A loose tube can obstruct oil flow in the engine, which can lead to stoppage of the engine.

The corrective action of the Z 242L/42a mandatory service bulletin is as follows:

• Check the adhesive joints in the “Tee” and “Elbow” assemblies of the aircraft oil system;

• Bond the appurtenant tube if found loose;

• Perform regular annual inspections of these adhesive joints;

• Exchange the Maintenance Manual (MM) (Doc. No. 003.022.1-English Version) primary pages for the pages that are enclosed with Mandatory SB Z 242L/42a.

Background The Airworthiness Authority of the Czech Republic (CAA-CZ) has issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) No. CAA-AD-098/2002, dated October 24, 2002 covering these inspections and corrections of the oil systems on all Z-242L aircraft within the Czech Republic. The actions of the CAA-CZ AD were to be done by November 28, 2002, which is the effective date of the CAA-CZ issued AD.

Recommendation We recommend that you accomplish the actions of Moravan Mandatory Bulletin No.

Z 242L/42, dated October 7, 2002 as soon as possible.
