CE-06-49 June 21, 2006 http://www.faa.gov/aircraft/safety/alerts/SAIB This is information only. Recommendations aren’t mandatory.

Introduction

This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) alerts you of an airworthiness concern for the following Burkhart Grob sailplanes:

Model Serial Number Twin Astir G 103 Twin II G 103 A Twin II Acro See Service Bulletin G 103 C Twin III Acro G 103 C Twin III Twin Astir Trainer

Background

Grob has issued Service Bulletin MSB 315- 68/1, dated May 5, 2006, which calls for a check of the flight and maintenance manuals of the specified Grob models for correct issue and revision status.

The Luftfahrt-Bundesamt (LBA, the German airworthiness authority) has issued Airworthiness Directive (AD) D-2006-057, dated March 6, 2006, for those sailplanes registered for operation in Germany. This AD is based on Grob Service Bulletin MSB315- 68, dated November 21, 2005, which has been superseded by Grob Service Bulletin MSB 315-68/1.

Recommendation

Foreign ADs are not considered mandatory actions on U.S. aircraft. We do not believe that this issue meets the criteria for an AD in the United States. However, we do recommend all owners and operators comply with actions outlined in the latest Grob service bulletin.
