**SPECIAL AIRWORTHINESS**

INFORMATION BULLETIN SUBJ: Standard Airworthiness Certificate Category for Stemme S10-VT Gliders SAIB: HQ-13-46 Date: September 30, 2013 This is information only. Recommendations aren’t mandatory.

Introduction This Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) informs the owners of Stemme Model S10- VT aircraft that the potential of possible incorrect information on your aircraft’s Standard Airworthiness Certificate, FAA Form 8100-2, exists. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has determined that the airworthiness concern is not an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) action under Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) part

39.

Background This SAIB is the result of a field inspector identifying that several standard airworthiness certificates, FAA Form 8100-2, have been issued to Stemme Model S10-VT aircraft with an incorrect category defined in Box 4. Gliders and powered gliders are included within a special class for type and airworthiness certification under 14 CFR 21.17. Issuance of a standard airworthiness certificate for these aircraft in accordance with 14 CFR 21.183 should be in the category of “special class” and not a category of utility or acrobatic. As such, the standard airworthiness certificate should state “glider” in Box 4.

Recommendations The FAA recommends that owners of Stemme Model S10-VT aircraft request a new standard airworthiness certificate from their local Flight Standards District Office using FAA Form 8130-6, Application for U.S. Airworthiness Certificate. In section II.A., choose a category of “other” and write in “Glider” in the box above (see example on the following page). You can download the form from the following location:
